Michael Burpee - 1940-2014

News of Michael Burpee's death has just reached me. Old Sedberghians from the 1950s will remember Michael, bright and cheerful, during his years at the school. He graduated in 1957 and sent his son, Sean, to Sedbergh during the 1980s. Michael followed in the footsteps of his brothers, Peter and Tom. The Burpee family was one of, if not the family, with more sons than any other attending Sedbergh.

The following obituary was published shortly after Michael's death.

BURPEE, MICHAEL O'LOUGHLIN

"Peacefully at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on January 23rd at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Gillian in Bermuda where they resided, cherished father of Geoffrey (Sharon), Sean and Caroline (Steven). Predeceased by his son Tony. Son of Leonard and Cassie Burpee and brother of Peter and Tom Burpee. Dear grandfather of Holly and Sam in Toronto, William and Louisa in Bermuda and Simone in England.

Michael grew up in Montreal, attended Sir George Williams University and had a career as an investment advisor in Montreal, Hong Kong, NY City and, in recent years, in Bermuda. A funeral service will be held in his memory at St. John's Anglican Church in Bermuda on February 21st."
